“We asked Mike Harley Building Contractors to quote for and subsequently undertake the building and renovation work at 8 Farndale View Market Harborough in March 2018. The work carried out was the construction of a large single storey kitchen/family room extension with roof light and large sections of bi-fold doors. The works consisted of taking over from ground floor to completion, including the plumbing, electrics, floor and wall tiling and decoration.
There were some challenging aspects to the build as we had designed a large open space with no visual obstructions such as bulk-heads or supporting posts in the room, which meant there was a need for an 8.5m long steel rolled steel joist hidden above the ceiling. Mike was very proactive and involved a local structural engineer who after some hard work was able to deliver a structural design to cater for our request. After some careful planning and hard graft, the beam was in position despite other challenges such as restricted access and the size and weight of the steel.
We are now the proud owners of a beautiful home and are very grateful to Mike and his team of consummate professionals for the outstanding workmanship and attention to detail they afforded us throughout the project. “We engaged MH to undertake the construction of a two storey extension to our period 1930s home. The scope of works, included the demolition of existing ground floor rooms, the construction of a new two storey extension and the conversion of existing upstairs bedrooms to form new bathrooms.
As owners of a period property, we were very keen to ensure the works were sympathetic to the existing house, which we achieved, with Mike's early input into the projects design development process. The scheme very successfully, involved the use of bricks and tiles recycled from the demolished existing facilities, which allowed for the entire front elevation of the new extension to blend in with the existing building. Mike then sourced additional reclaimed tiles, from the original manufacturer, which were used to the side and rear elevations. In addition Mike sourced a new imperial brick that was most sympathetic to the property, for the same side and rear elevations.
MH has a team of experienced tradesman, that are able to deliver high standards of work, in their individual specialist areas and along with Mike very willing to offer their opinions on different options, throughout the construction process. Mike also has a vast network of other local tradesmen available to him, to assist with other specialist sub-contactor works where needed. From a client perspective we are very happy with the high standard of finishes in all aspects of the project, from external brickwork to internal plaster covings. The resulting extension and refurbishment works, have enhanced our family home significantly and all our expectations have at least been met, if not exceeded in most areas by Mike Harley Builders.
